Planning Your Benefits

What are other employers our size offering to employees?

Comparing your employee benefits with those offered by similar employers is a valuable starting point when evaluating your benefits strategy.

We can benchmark your benefits against organizations of similar size, industry, and geography, looking at factors such as:

  • Employer contributions: How much are other employers paying toward employee and dependent coverage?
  • Employee costs: How do your deductibles, copays, and out-of-pocket expenses compare?
  • Plan design: Are employers offering traditional plans, high-deductible options, or alternative funding arrangements?
  • Additional benefits: How common are dental, vision, life, disability, and other voluntary benefits among your peers?

These comparisons can help you identify where your benefits are competitive, where gaps may exist, and where you may be investing more than necessary.

But there's an important distinction.

Benchmarking tells you what other employers are doing. It doesn't tell you whether they're making the right decisions.

Some organizations intentionally invest more in benefits to attract specialized talent. Others prioritize higher wages, retirement contributions, or flexible work arrangements.

Two employers in the same industry, with the same number of employees, may have very different benefits strategies, and both may be successful.

That's why we believe benchmarking should inform your decisions, not dictate them.

Understanding the market gives you valuable perspective. Understanding your organization's workforce, financial priorities, and long-term goals is what turns that perspective into a meaningful benefits strategy.

Bottom line

Competitive doesn't have to mean identical.

The goal isn't to copy what other employers are offering. It's to understand how your benefits compare and use that perspective to build a program that reflects your employees' needs, your budget, and your business priorities.
